Whether you came for the breathtaking views or staying for the small-town feel, Clark Colorado is the perfect canvas for building a dream mountain escape. From the year-round activities to the rich ranching heritage, the beauty of this town lies in its simplicity.
Situated in the mountainous Routt County, Clark was first known to be a resting area for gold miners. In 1864 miners spent their days hard laboring on the rigid mountain of Hahns Peak, just up the way from the new settlement. As more moved to the developing town, its residents sought out other streams of revenue and so the art of ranching began to flourish.
Ranching quickly became the main industry for generations, and continues today. With the Elk River flowing through, Clark ranchers have had access to incredible water rights, fostering exceptional agricultural conditions. While cattle ranches remain the most popular trade, the area is known for its hay production.
Apart from its rich western history, Clark has gained recognition over the years for its recreational purposes. Winter here creates a white wonderland, ready to be explored. With Steamboat Lake and Pearl Lake located to the north, you can get the best of cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in seemingly uncharted landscapes. If you crave more terrain, take the 30-minute drive into Steamboat Springs, otherwise known as Ski Town USA to enjoy world-class skiing paired with mountain time living.
Clark’s summers will leave you wanting more. Perfectly located between the Zirkel Wilderness and Routt National Forest, the treasures of the Colorado Rockies are all within a short drive. At Steamboat Lake, where the cascading mountains meet mellowed waters, the activities are endless. If it is a thrill you seek, take a hike up the towering Hahn’s Peak, where you will truly feel on top of the world. The trails are absolutely endless here, with the majestic Mount Zirkel just outside of town, accompanied by the entirety of the Routt National Forest within your backyard. From mountain biking to horseback riding, to world renowned exploring opportunities, Clark has a little something for everyone.
After a full day of adventuring, it’s time to fuel up back in town. The Clark Store is your one-stop shop for a quick snack, ice cream or a homemade burger from the deli. Craving a more authentic restaurant experience, pop on over to Hahn’s Peak Cafe or the newer TNT Bar down the road. Both offer a sit-down experience with views of the expansive county along with glimpses of Steamboat Lake. The Steamboat Lake Outpost has you covered with fuel, outdoor adventures and lives music and events.
As an attractive country oasis, Clark provides spectacular views, outdoor recreation, and small-town ties that will last a lifetime.
